Program Profile: Optometry | Home | |||
| Informal perspective about a program of study. |
How I Got Started: When I was in elementary school, I had trouble reading the blackboard from my desk. I would squint or close one eye just to read my spelling words. I went to an optometrist who examined my eyes and gave me a prescription so I could pick out really cool glasses. For these reasons, I decided that I wanted to study optometry.
What I Want to Study: I want to study optometry because I want to help others see far distances to read menus at fast food restaurants and to see up close to read car and fashion magazines. Some of the classes I will take so I can learn all about eyes are, College Biology, Anatomy, and Bacteriaology.
What I Can Do In The Future: I can help people pick out frames for their lenses as an optician, or I can go to medical school to further my studies. If I choose to go to medical school, I have the option to be an optometrist, who examines people’s eyes for diseases or injuries, like when I had icky pink eye and needed eye drops. Or, if I was interested in doing surgery, I could be an ophthalmologist.
