Informal perspective about a program of study.

How I Got Started: When I was little, I thought art was coloring outside the lines. However, the more I painted and drew as I got older, the more I wanted to know about artists, styles, and particular works. I found information in books and on the Internet, but the most useful information came from the people at museums, who seem to really care about the paintings and sculptures they tend. We only learned a little about art in high school, so in college, I was excited to have the opportunity to focus my studies on the subject I love.

What I Want to Study: Art history is a fun subject to study. While most history classes teach us what has happened in the past, art history shows us the ideas and emotions that relate to those events and to the cultures from which they came. It’s exciting to learn about the great artists, such as Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, and Escher. In addition to learning about great artists, I have the chance to take classes such as 18th century art, art and architecture of ancient Greece, and art studio.

What I Can Do In The Future: Studying art history allows me to have several opportunities for the future. I could teach and share my knowledge with eager young minds. I could work in a museum, perhaps as the curator or as a programming director. I may also be able to find a job at different cultural centers, presenting art and explaining how it represents the values and ideas of different cultures. Knowing about the various periods of artistic style also allows me to grow as an artist, choosing one to focus on or developing my own style from those before me.
